How do Government, Law and Business interact, and what are the different ways in which the government intervenes in the commercial environment? What exactly is the government trying to achieve by intervening? Please feel free to share any thoughts that you might have on this topic... i want to get others opinions so that i can argue my view on the topic using my opinion as well as that of others.

My daughter has been trying to negotiate a settle for a rental lease she broke 3 years ago, the collector told her that there is a new government law where this can be reported as unpaid property and will remain on her credit forever and that if she doesn't pay it in full in 3 days they will report it that way. They also said because it is North Carolina they cannot remove it from her credit report even if she pays it, that it will only show paid.
